Can You Really Hypnotize a Person?

Can You Really Hypnotize a Person - Hypnosis HoustonIt’s hardly surprising that many people are skeptical as to whether hypnosis is real or not. People mainly associate hypnosis with stage shows and others making a fool of themselves. However, this is only a tiny proportion of what hypnosis actually is and the answer to the question ‘can you really hypnotize a person?’ is, yes; yes, you can.
Interestingly, it’s more about a person wanting to be hypnotized, being willing, and allowing themselves to participate, rather than someone having a power to hypnotize someone else. According to a study from Stanford University, about 10 per cent of people are easily hypnotizable. While it is also true that the rest of the population can also be hypnotized, like any new skill, they may need to be taught to do so. A skilled hypnotist can easily accomplish this in an hour.

What Is Hypnosis Used For?

Hypnosis can be used to help people to cope with problems they are facing or to help or to address other conditions they are suffering from. Hypnosis is often used to help people who want to quit smoking, it has helped people overcome speech impediments, others who struggle with anxiety and stress have found hypnosis a useful treatment, and it can also be used to help people who have difficulty sleeping. If you have a condition and haven’t found the right approach yet, then it’s worth finding out if hypnosis could help you. However, it’s no good looking up a stage hypnotist who swings a pocket watch; if you or someone you know would benefit from seeing a hypnotist, then you need to see a certified hypnotist.

What Happens During Hypnosis?

During hypnosis, you are actually completely in control of your body, are alert. It’s not like it looks on TV for entertainment purposes, where you see people doing stupid things they wouldn’t normally do. In reality, you will still be aware of what you’re doing and what is being asked of you while you are in a state of hypnosis. Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation; your brain waves slow down, your conscious mind gets quiet, and your subconscious mind opens up.
Our brains have two aspects of it, the subconscious mind which makes up the greater percent, and the conscious mind makes up the rest. The subconscious mind is responsible for all of your involuntary actions such as your breathing rate and heartbeats, the things you do without even thinking about. The conscious mind is the part of the brain responsible for logic and reasoning – the part you use to do maths.
So, when you are in a deep state of relaxation, under hypnosis, your hypnotist will make suggestions to you which will help you become more open to change and to achieve or overcome whatever your goal is.
When you are hypnotized, physical changes happen in the body. Your heart rate slows down, your blood pressure can be reduced, your muscles will relax, and any pain that you feel will also reduce. Other things will also happen mentally and emotionally, which means that you are able to reduce the level of stress and anxiety you feel, just be being in hypnosis, in a deep state of relaxation.
